SLSS Subjects/Programmes

This section is currently being updated

These pages set out the range of services which have been put in place by the Department of Education and Science through the Teacher Education Section to support post primary schools. The website is intended as a convenient point of reference which may assist school management and teachers in taking decisions related to accessing these services. Contact details for all support services and individual support personnel are included. The website outlines the schedule of inservice events. Where these are one day seminars held in school time letters of invitation will issue to schools closer to the date. In the case of Modular Courses it will be at the discretion of the individual teacher, with the approval of management, to apply for a place using the application form provided in this website.

The Teacher Education Section has overseen a careful coordination process which has governed the scheduling of those inservice events which take place in school time. Every effort has been made to ensure that the programme of National Inservice does not make unreasonable demands for the release of teachers from individual schools on any one day.

In addition to the programme presented in this website an extensive programme of Local Courses is also offered through the Education Centre network. These courses take place in teachers’ own time, are designed in response to local demand and are notified to schools locally. The Education Centre Network plays a central role in the provision made for support of schools and teachers.
