The Home Economics Support Service will continue to assist teachers with the implementation of the revised syllabus and contribute to their professional development. Courses will be offered at local and regional level, organised in association with Education Centres. Details of these will be sent to schools by the Education Centres and will also be available on our web site.
A help line service by phone and email is available to all teachers.

Induction Course
Day 2 of our induction programme will be offered to newly qualified teachers who attended the first day in the autumn term. This will focus on curricular planning. There will be opportunities for teachers to engage in reflective practice in the area of active learning methodologies. Invitations to attend this event will be issued to schools directly and will be accompanied by a registration form.

Local Cluster Groups
Schools that are in the same locality may wish to organise mini cluster meetings, facilitated by the Support Service.
Please contact Angela Thompson, Support Service Administrator for details on these.

School Visits
School visits will be undertaken in response to requests where resources permit. Support will be provided for individual teachers or groups of teachers involved with the Leaving Certificate Home Economics syllabus. When schools request such support, planning for the visit will take place in consultation with the school.

The new website can be located at www.homeeconomics.ie This website offers teachers the opportunity to communicate with each other and share ideas through an internet
forum. Support materials for teachers and power point presentations can be downloaded from the website.

Magazine
The Home Economics Support Service magazine will be published before the end of the school year. All contributions to the magazine would be most welcome. Please email your
contribution / article to homeeconomics@slss.ie.
