Modular Courses
The programme of in-service begun in September 2006 will continue in the period January to June 2007. The Modular Course in Approaches to Poetry and Creative Writing will be held in Blackrock Education Centre, Navan Education Centre and Galway Education Centre.
The Moving Image Module for Transition Year Pilot Project will continue in Sligo, Ennis and Kilkenny. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who would like to participate in a research project, piloting material in TY. The aim of the project is to develop a Film Module that will be made available to all schools. This pilot is heavily resourced with each school receiving DVD resources and the Support Service sponsoring public screenings of selected titles. This course is offered in partnership with the Irish Film Institute.

Approaches to Poetry & Creative Writing
Moving Image pilot project

Local Facilitators/ Leaving Certificate Colloquium.
The English Second Level Support Service is planning a national colloquium on Leaving Certificate English to review the position of the subject five years after the first examination of the revised syllabus. The colloquium will consist of focus groups drawn from: Local Facilitators, Support Personnel; DES Inspectors, SEC Examination Managers; Third-Level Teachers; and Education Officers of the NCCA. The findings will be published in the Teaching English Magazine or a separate English Second Level Support Service pamphlet.

Magazine & Pamphlets
There will be a Spring edition of the Teaching English magazine as well as two pamphlets on Teaching English. The pamphlets will be distributed with the magazine and will, thereafter, be available to download from the English website.

Poetry Competition & Writer Residencies
The Poetry Competition goes from strength to strength. In 2007 we will offer winning schools writer residencies through the Poetry Ireland scheme.
