The Biology Support Service will continue to provide support for the Continuing Professional Development of Biology teachers by supporting courses (Genetics and Data-logging) and initiatives (Teacher Design Teams, Action Research etc) at regional and local level through the Education Centre network and through our website. Teachers new to Biology teaching will be offered in-service as set out below together with a Laboratory day and an Ecology Fieldtrip (dates/venues of which will be announced later). School visits will be undertaken in response to requests where resources permit.

Our website www.bsstralee.ie increases in popularity each month and is fast becoming 'a one stop shop' for Biology teachers. Included on the site:

• Resources i.e. materials and methodologies for teaching and learning for all parts of the syllabus, including all of the DES publications.Discussion Forum - where teachers exchange ideas and interact with colleagues.
• Discussion Forum - where teachers exchange ideas and interact with colleagues.
• Newsletters - published twice a year with lots of ideas and resources. A hard copy is also posted to all Biology
  teachers on the database.
• Forthcoming Events - the diary of what is available to you and/or your students around the country.
• News - any news that would be of interest to Biology teachers or their students e.g. new initiatives for teachers, student competitions etc.

The site will be updated on a continuous basis so as to enable you to keep in touch with what is happening around the country. At the moment we are planning a 'resource exchange' section, where teachers can submit some of their own resources to share with the rest of their colleagues. Watch this space and as our motto says - Keep in Touch.

Meetings
Invitations to attend network meetings will be sent to schools from the Support Service or from the Education Centre Network in advance of the date. The dates and venues of all of the meetings will also be posted on our website - contact us through the website if you have not received an invitation through your school.

• Meetings for Action Research teachers
• Evening Network Courses: Genetics (extending over four consecutive weeks)
• Evening Network Courses: Data Logging for Biology Teachers (beginners) (extending over four consecutive weeks)
