SL1002: Role of the Year Head

Target Group: Year heads in schools, and those aspiring to gain promotion to the position of year head
Course Aims: • Support teachers in defining and establishing their role as year head
• Enable teachers to engage in planning and administration related to their various responsibilities
• Support teachers in leading the team of class tutors and contributing to the team of year heads.
• Explore and share strategies to help teachers cope more effectively with stress and develop skills for time management
• Enable teachers to support pastoral care within the year group, including dealing with difficult students.
• Help teachers develop effective negotiating skills and skills for conflict resolution with adults
• Provide opportunities for developing strategies on introducing, supporting and sustaining innovation in schools.
• Undertake some action research in teachers’ own work situations, reflect on practice and document the outcomes.
The course will have a practical focus and will provide opportunities for participants to engage in discussion and share good practice.
